I've written a lot of words. I've said even more words. Here's where those words have gone:
As a Broadcaster:
Talking about sports for a living? Sign me up. I began my play-by-play journey in 2020 with D1MediaProand the NFHS Network. For three years there, I called football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, hockey, volleyball, soccer, and even ultimate frisbee. Also in high school, I worked for BallerTV, doing play-by-play for two years of the Metro Classic, a top high school basketball showcase, and the ACES Hustle & Heart Classic that featured Overtime Elite. After graduating and heading to Penn State, I joined two student radio stations, CommRadio and The Lion 90.7 FM, both of which were a great decision. Through the two, I've called football, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, softball, volleyball, and field hockey. I've also called gymnastics for B1G+, Big Ten Network's streaming service. During summer 2024, I had the opportunity to work for FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, where I did play-by-play for the U17 Men's and Women's World Cups, color commentary for the U18 Men's AmeriCup, and hosted Chat Parties for Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and the Paris Olympics.
As a Writer:
Ah, yes. Where it all began. Tap Into Westfield, a local online newspaper, was where I got my first sports media experience, serving as an ice hockey beat reporter and writing feature stories. In my senior year of high school, I was a writer and opinions page editor for my school's newspaper, Hi's Eye. I have also written for New Jersey basketball multimedia platform NJHoopRecruit, since 2021, including feature stories, recruitment updates, and game previews. Then, college came and I started writing even more. While Onward State has led me to many new lifelong friends, the student-run blog has also given me opportunities to write a little bit about everything. Although sports have been my focus, my work also includes features, opinions, news, tomfoolery, and politics.
As a TV Anchor:
Some of the greatest times I've had covering sports have come in front of a camera. During my junior and senior years of high school, I was the sports anchor for Blue Devil TV, my high school TV station that produced a daily morning show. In this role, I recapped and previewed games, interviewed players and coaches, and I even played against the school's top athletes in their respective sports. That was fun, and a little painful, so I recommend you check out those videos here. In college, I hosted an episode of After The Whistle, a weekly high school football show, and you can watch that here.
As an Interviewer:
While sometimes scary, talking to people is a ton of fun. I've interviewed people for all of my writing positions, and I've also done pregame, halftime, and postgame interviews as a radio and TV broadcaster. Additionally, I created my own virtual interview show in 2020, Beyond The Play, and I talked to high school, college, and professional athletes.
